Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Rd) CCA Open House, 30th December 2010

The annual CCA Open House was an important event at ACS (Barker Rd). Our newest recruits, the Sec 1s, were coming down with their parents to choose their respective CCAs & as the newest kid on the block, we the Handball team were our to impress.

However, as we were a new CCA without any student membership, we didn’t have any seniors who could help beautify our booth with their creative talents. Running out of options, we turned to the Handball Federation of Singapore for help. They were not only more than obliging, they offered us a treasure trove of Handball publicity information we could use for our booth. There were goodies ranging from pamphlets, gift postcards, YOG videos, t-shirts and many others.
At the end of the day, we not only maxed out the quota of 14 Sec 1 students allocated to us, but we managed to attract many of the Sec 2-4s to sign up as well. Our Handball booth was certainly one of the more attractive & informative among all the sports CCAs & this was in no small part due to the generous assistance afforded to us by the HFS.

Thank you HFS!

Handball Federation of Singapore introduces Beach Handball

WE LOVE THE SUN, SAND AND THE BEACH, DO YOU?

Beach Handball - A game played in a fairly smaller and sandy ground measuring 27m by 12m. Beach handball is a team sports played with 4 players (1 goalkeeper and 3 players) from each team. Teams try to score by throwing the ball into a 3m by 2m goal post at the goal line. Similar to court handball, only the goalkeeper can be inside the Goalkeeper's zone. Beach Handball focuses a lot of strategy plays & fast teamwork as each regular match is played only over 2 sets of 10 minutes, an outfield player may chose to score 1 or 2 points while a goalkeeper's score is always 2 points.

Republic Polytechnic students have stepped forward and will be actively engage with this fast, intense and exciting team sports. A weekly beach handball clinic will be conducted at Sentosa and the clinic will be open for public in February. Mature Players will be handpicked and trained as the first batch of NTO (Beach)!

Watch Out for MORE Information as HFS presents its first Beach Handball Championships at Sentosa!

Handball Clinic for Republic Polytechnic

A group of students' leaders from Republic Polytechnic fell in love with the dynamic sports - Handball - when they watched the YOG matches Live at Suntec. They approached Handball Federation of Singapore in November to support their plan to build a handball CCA in their polytechnic. In addition to our continuous efforts to support keen sports leaders, we are totally convinced by their passion. HFS conducted a FREE Handball Learn to Play Clinic in December for RP. Close to 40 RP students were actively involved in the handball session on 19th Dec (Sunday) at ITE College East.

We are very happy to learn from RP SHL Sports Club President, Mr Melvin Chong, that with their continued effort in publicity. They have lobbied the support form their academic staff and the students to start a Handball Interest Group in 2011! Way to go, RP!
