Handball Federation of Singapore at the Launch of Physical Education and Sports Teacher Academy (PESTA)



As part of the launch of PESTA, a PE Conference is organised on 16 and 17 August for more than 1000 PE Teacher, HODs, CCA and Sports Teachers at Republic Polytechnic. Handball Federation is invited by the Organising Committee to showcase Handball on 16 August, 2011 to the participants.

Mr Ong Yong Hui, Hon Secretary, led a group of 5 coaches to conduct a Handball session for the participants. The 6-members PESTA Instructor Team comprises of teachers from Damai Secondary, Pei Hua Secondary, Raffles Institution and St Andrews Secondary. The 6-members team attended the IHF - HFS National Coaching Certification conducted by IHF Handball Lecturer, Mr Allan Lund (DEN) in December 2010 at College East.

A peek into the lesson outline from the PESTA Chief Coordintor:

PESTA participants were first introduced to Handball by going through 4 simple and fun stations including (1) Modified Dodgeball (2) Throwing and Tagging Challenge (3) Invasion Game: Powerball (with cones as targets) (4) Half court modified handball game to understand the movement for wave attack.

Participants had a short tea break followed by the understanding of simple rules of handball. Individual attacks and defences drills were introduced. The session ended off with a round-robin full court (using basketball court) handball games. All participants enjoy themselves and are very eager to share this beautiful sports - Handball - with their colleagues and students!
